Architects To Be Prosecuted For Designing Houses For Looters In Nigeria

Corruption has made Nigerians mad. As a result all kinds of crazy ideas are coming out on how best to fight the hydra headed monster before it kills the country.
With a president like Muhammadu Buhari who has made war against corruption, the centre of his change mantra, all manner of people are coming up with fancy and ‘innovative ideas’ on how to fight the corruption war. A typical example is the one suggested by no less a person than the chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Mr Ekpo Nta.
Speaking to architects in Abuja recently, the anti-corruption czar who has just found his mojo under President Buhari warned the architects: “If we see that a house is built with proceeds from crime, we will trace everybody who benefitted from the crime. We have got a lot of petitions relating to the industry”.
The ICPC chairman warned that architects who design houses used to launder money would be prosecuted alongside their developers/owners.
But Mr Nta, a lawyer did not tell Nigerians why lawyers who defended convicted looters are not recommended by his office for prosecution? Are they not also beneficiary of laundered money?
With every service provider doing background checks on their customers or clients to know whether the money they paid are from legitimate means, do we still need the ICPC?
As for the bean cake and amala seller, make sure that when a known looter comes to patronise you, you ask him how he come about his money, because you may become the guest of ICPC for partaking in sharing laundered money. Nigeria is a strange country, that is why crazy ideas abound even from official quarters!
