Afghanistan, Their Afghanistan: Trump Having A Laugh!

Trump

When President Joe Biden entered the 2020 presidential race in the United States he was touted as the most experienced and celebrated foreign policy candidate.

In general, the former vice president and longtime senator adheres to the traditional center-left worldview espoused by most establishment Democrats, which emphasizes America’s role as a champion of democracy and human rights around the world, places high value on maintaining alliances, and sees American military power on balance as a force for good in the world.

In government, in speeches, and in writings, Biden had made his positions very clear. He’s a strong advocate of NATO and of having close relationships with America’s traditional European allies. He wants to firmly push back against Russia’s aggression. He’d like to work with Latin American countries to stamp out corruption, curb violence, and democratize the region. He would make boosting America’s economy central to US strength, while still remaining somewhat skeptical of free trade. He’s cautious about what the US military can achieve on its own in the Middle East and elsewhere. And he says the US should focus much of its attention on Asia, mainly because of a growing China. What was not publicized was that his foreign policy decisions had always been disastrous.
Despite the warning signals, not even the media was ready to listen. They were rather ready to ignore Biden’s foreign policy record in his 26 years in the Senate as the senator representing Delaware and as vice president for eight years, in their desperation to ensure that President Donald Trump was not reelected.
At the time foreign policy experts in the United States noted that Biden has committed serious errors on the world stage — mistakes that should mar his standing as the leading foreign policy candidate, but for American mainstream media’s obsessive hatred for Donald Trump.

The foreign policy experts had pointed out a few examples to show that Biden would be a disaster in handling American foreign policy based on his past records. The records include; In 1991, he voted against the Gulf War, which quickly and successfully pushed out Iraqi forces from Kuwait; In 2003, he voted in favor of the invasion of Iraq that led to over a
decade of war, thousands dead, and billions spent; In 2009, he tried to sell Obama on a strategy for Afghanistan that featured US troops training Afghan fighters and prioritized counterterrorism over statebuilding; In 2011, he advised Obama not to send a military team to kill Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader who organized the September 11 terrorist attacks. The mission, with a few hiccups, was successful — and was arguably one of the biggest foreign policy wins, at least
symbolically, of Obama’s presidency. These and other perceived blunders led Robert Gates, who served as defense secretary under both George W. Bush and Obama, to issue a scathing critique of Biden’s acumen, saying he’s been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”

Today the fears of the foreign experts have come true in the disastrous handling of the Afghanistan debacle that has paved way for the return of the Taliban to power. And the drowning Biden is now clutching on anything to save his fledgling Presidency including blaming former President Donald Trump’s policy on Afghanistan.

While Trump made it his administration’s policy to embark on
the phased withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the former President also made it clear that America would withdraw from a position of strength and not weakness as executed poorly by Biden.

In any case, if Trump’s policy was not good for America, why didn’t Biden change it as he did with most policies of Trump, including the cancellation of bans put on some countries that breed terrorists from entering the United States? Or like he stopped the building of the wall that Trump was building along Mexican borders to wade off drug traffickers and illegal migrants?

Recall that from day one on the assumption of office as President, Joe Biden begun to undo some of Donald Trump's key policies. In his initial acts as the 46th US President, he signed 15 executive orders including the ones that reversed the Trump administration's stance on climate change and immigration. "There is no time to waste when it comes to tackling the crises we face," President Biden tweeted as he headed to the White House following his inauguration.

President Biden "will take action - not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration - but also to start moving our country forward," a statement detailing his
executive orders said. So why didn’t he reverse Trump’s policy on Afghanistan? He doesn’t have to because Trump’s policy on Afghanistan was sound. Biden just bungled it. The bungling angered many Americans to the extent that not even CNN was ready to defend Biden on this. As Biden’s action in Afghanistan diminishes America’s standing around the world, Trump is obviously having a laugh.
