How Much Does Paralympic Medal Worth In Nigeria

There is no debate that the Nigerian paralympic team has done the country proud at the London 2012 Paralympic Games by winning six golds, five silvers and one bronze medals, however what is debatable is whether they have been fairly rewarded for the image of our country they bolstered in the eyes of the international community by their performances. This is more so when situated alongside the woeful performance by the olympic team. According to media report the National Sports Commission(NSC) has given $7,500, $5,000 and $2,500  to gold, silver and bronze medalists respectively. I consider this amount unfair to the efforts of these young men and women. It shows great under appreciation of what they have done for the country. This meagre amount for the medalist is from the same NSC that at the qualification match for the 2010 world cup between Nigeria and Tunisia which ended  2-2 with uninspiring performance by the Eagles it went ahead to pay the Eagles winning bonus of $10,000. I do hope that the injustice done these sportmen and women will be corrected without delay immidiately they are received by President Goodluck Jonathan. The president should not only reward them with more dollars, he should also allocate lands to the gold medalists at the federal capital territory Abuja, as was done for the Dream Team when they won soccer gold in Atlanta 1996. Anything less is not a enough and would be interpreted as the continuation of the marginalisation of the disabled in this country.
