Why Should Police Announce That They Are Watching Sheriff, Zanna And Ndume

It is now apparent why the police have failed abysmally in fighting crime that necesitated the involvement of the military among others in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the country.The operational sloppiness of the police should be blamed for their inability to solve any crime especially that of the magnitude of Boko Haram or the unresolved murder of Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice late Chief Bola Ige who was killed during the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo in power but the perpetrators were never apprehended and prosecuted till date.

The big question to ask is why should the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar announce to the world that the police are watching former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff,Senator Ahmad Zanna, and Senator Ndume over their alleged link with Boko Haram? What does the IGP want to achieve by making such disclosure? Does is it mean that after all these years that Sheriff’s name were being constantly mentioned anytime Boko Haram was analysed he was not put under watch?

To tell a suspect that he is under watch is tantamount to telling the man: watch your back. How does that help the police in nailing the suspect? In short, the police goofed by telling the world that they are watching Sheriff, Zanna and Ndume over their alleged link to Boko Haram.
