2015 :Which South East Governor Can Be Presented For President
All things being equal, the next president of Nigeria in
2015 is likely to be from the rank of governors. The Nigerian Governors’
Forum(NGF) are probably the most powerful political group in the country. This
group has become so strong with each passing year right from the twilight of president
Olusegun Obasanjo when they literally forced Obasanjo to kowtow to their whims
and caprices by making sure that both the vice presidential and presidential
candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) were former governors.
That was how the former governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua
and former governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan emerged
president and vice president respectively in 2007.
In the north of the country besides, the presidential
candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) in the 2011 presidential
election and former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, most of those tipped
for president are serving governors like the governor of Niger State and
chairman of Northern States’ Governors Forum(NSGF), Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu
and the governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
In the South East, however, while many opinion leaders are
canvassing for a president from the zone no serving governors’ names are being
thrown up as possible candidates. That is why I am throwing the question:
between the governors of Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu States which
state governor on the basis of performance can the South East present in 2015
for president? To be frank, I am not satisfied with the performance of most of
the governors.
