2015: At Last, Jonathan Declares For President

President Goodluck Jonathan has finally confirmed that he would run for president in 2015. The President made the announcement today at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The announcement by the president has brought to an end speculations on whether he would run or not.

It would be recalled that many Nigerians had expected the president to declare his intent at the last mega rally of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria(TAN) at the Eagle Square in Abuja last Saturday, but the president failed to show up.

Only yesterday the PDP leadership had announced that it would not extend the purchase of forms for aspirants beyond October 30, 2014, including the president who has already been made the consensus presidential candidate of the party.

It is however obvious that with Jonathan’s declaration, those who are trying to stop him using the court may intensify their struggle. The president had been taken to court by those who said that he is not eligible to contest citing some sections of the constitution. They alleged that he would be violating the constitution if he runs and win.
