Letter To President Donald Trump
President Donald Trump |
I hope this letter meets you well and upbeat as you fight the biggest political battle of your life. The battle to reclaim a mandate that you believed was stolen from you. A battle that only the Supreme Court can redeem and restore the people of America’s mandate freely given to you on November 3, 2020. Whatever the learned Justices of the Supreme Court eventually decide between now and December 2020, be rest assured that your place in history is assured.
You are not a professional politician like your Democratic challenger who had been in government for 47 years without tangible accomplishments. He was part of the Washington swamp that Americans sent you to Washington to clean up in 2016. And what a clean up you have done! The shock wave is still reverberating. The Amalgam of forces within and without America put against you could only be compared to the ones waged against stillborn Biafra in the 1960s when all the world powers including United States, United Kingdom, USSR etc combined to stop its manifestation. The Angolan Civil War last over 30 years because one of the major powers, USSR was involved. Biafra lasted barely three years because no big power was behind it. That was your fate. The world is always threatened by change. To support the status quo is easy. But you are not a status quo man.
Obama swept to power in 2008 under the mantra of change, but Washington didn’t see any change till your arrival in 2016. And what changes you have wrought! And you broke American politics for good! Before the election nobody gave you a chance, not even your tremendous economic accomplishments could account for a thing.
Heading into the elections every shred of available evidence suggested that you are likely to lose, and lose convincingly, to former Vice President Joe Biden. Even as an incumbent President you trailed by high single-digits in national polling. You were behind in polling averages in virtually every swing state. You were drastically outspent on television in the vast majority of battlegrounds. Professional campaign handicappers were unanimous that the election was likely to border on landslide territory for Biden. And yet, that's not what happened. It was clear now that if you lose at the Supreme Court nobody will ever say that you were swept out of office in a clear rebuke of your first four years in office.
And if you eventually lose, you are a winner, as numbers do not lie. Look at how far you have taken the Republican Party bringing in new members from blacks, Hispanics and other people of colour, making you the most impactful Republican leader since Ronald Reagan. You overperformed the poll numbers almost everywhere and because of you Republican Party holds its majority in the Senate and cut into the Democratic Party seats in the House of Representatives. You have put political pollsters out of business. They were wrong now as they were in 2016. In 2016, most polling suggested that Hillary Clinton was on her way to a comfortable, if not crushing, victory. That obviously didn't happen. They underrated you at their own peril. What your two bids for president have shown is that there are fundamental flaws in the way presidential elections are reported on and analyzed.
You have shown that you are a force to reckon with. Only a force as strong as you could withstand the gang up by the media, Facebook, Twitter, Google and other corporate billionaires and still manages to garner 70,903,774 votes or 47.7% of the popular votes against Biden’s 75, 404, 589 votes or 50.7% of votes cast despite spending more money than you. You are always a winner. Whatever happens, going forward you have made your point! Washington, the United States and the world will never be the same again because you elected to leave your lucrative business to show how things should be done.
