Obiano Charges Lawmakers Over Patriotism

Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has charged members of Anambra State House of Assembly to put the interest  of their constituents above party and personal interests, just as the lawmakers have elected Hon. Rita Maduagwu, member representing Nnewi South 11 constituency, as speaker of the 30-member legislature, while the member representing Awka-South constituency 11, Hon. Hayford Oseke, was elected deputy speaker.
The governor who spoke at the weekend in Awka, the state capital, during the inauguration of the 6th State Assembly emphasized the need for the lawmakers to enact laws that would improve the living conditions of the people, as well as promote peace and unity in the state.
While congratulating the legislators for their victory at the polls, Obiano reminded them that electioneering campaign was over, adding that the task before them is to cooperate with the executive to improve the welfare of the people as well as develop the state’s economy.
Governor Obiano further tasked the electorate to serve as watch dog on both the legislature and the executive to ensure that both arms of the government fulfill the expectations of the citizens of the state.
He announced the appointment of Hon. Pauly Onyeka, as his liaison officer to the House.
Maduagwu is the second female speaker of the House.
