Obasanjo Exhibits Indiscipline, Attends Jonathan’s Last Council Of State Meeting Late
Former Heads of State at Council of State meeting in Abuja |
The former President Chief Olusegun
Obasanjo today attended the last council of state meeting to be hosted by the
outgoing president Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan 40 minutes late.
According to presidency sources all
the former heads of states including General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu
Shagari, president-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, General Ibrahim Babangida,
Chief Ernest Shonekan, General Abdulsalami Abubakar and the state governors
were in attendance.
By official protocol the incumbent
president is supposed to be the last person to enter the meeting chambers for
it to kick off. The meeting was said to have started by 11: 30am once President
Jonathan entered the chambers. However to the chagrin of protocol officials the
former President Obasanjo strutted into the Presidential Villa at about 12:
10pm. This behaviour of Obasanjo has been interpreted by Nigerians as an insult
to the office of the president. It was however not known whether the former
president was allowed to enter the meeting.
The national council of state comprises
of former presidents and heads of states as well as state governors where top
issues of governance and decisions are taken. It was gathered that this edition
which is the last under President Jonathan would be dominated by the transition
to another administration to be led by President-elect General Muhammadu and
the challenging economic climate in the country as a result of the fall in oil
price.
