Tinubu, Amaechi At War Over Who Becomes Senate President

Few weeks before the inauguration of the Eight Senate, the choice of who becomes the senate president is tearing All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders apart.
It was gathered that the APC under its zoning arrangement had allotted the senate presidency position to the North Central zone of the country. Among the ranking senators from the zone angling for the position are the senate minority leader and former governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume and the chairman Senate Committee on Environment and former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki.
It was gathered that while APC national leader and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is backing Akume and is insisting that he should be the next senate president, Amaechi who was the director general of President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari campaign organisation is standing his ground that Saraki should be the senate president.
According to political pundits who spoke to this blog, the choice of senate president is only the first sign of what lies ahead for the APC which has suddenly become the party in power and must now learn how to manage big egos. They noted that it was poor management of various egos that has reduced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from a governing party to an opposition party.
The pundits was however unanimous that Tinubu given his role in the emergence of Buhari both at the party’s primary and victory at the presidential election would have the final say on who becomes the next senate president. It is therefore their opinion that Akume is likely to be the next senate president.
