Defence Headquarters Seeks Clarification From CAN Chairman Over Allegations
General Christopher Musa |
In response to recent allegations
made by Rev Timothy Daluk, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria
(CAN) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Defence Headquarters
(DHQ) has expressed its intention to invite him for a meeting to substantiate
his claims.
Daluk had accused the Nigerian
military of complicity in the killings of Christians and destruction of
property in Mangu. Rev Timothy Daluk, in a widely circulated video, accused the
military of orchestrating the displacement of Christians and facilitating the
burning of their
homes in Mangu Local Government
Area. He alleged that the military was involved in sending Christians away,
allowing militias to commit acts of arson. Response from Defence Headquarters:
The DHQ, upon receiving inquiries about the
allegations, clarified its
position. Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations,
stated that the military would seek to engage with Rev Timothy Daluk to obtain
further details and evidence supporting his
accusations. Intent to
Substantiate Claims: Major General Buba emphasized that the DHQ views Daluk's
claims seriously and recognizes the emotional impact of traumatic experiences
on individuals. The military is committed to conducting a
thorough investigation and
obtaining substantiated information after engaging with the CAN chairman.
Maintaining Professionalism: The Defence Headquarters reassured the public
that, regardless of the allegations, the military would continue
to discharge its duties
professionally and adhere to the highest international standards. The
commitment to upholding professionalism remains paramount amid the ongoing
situation. Conclusion: The Defence Headquarters' decision to invite Rev
Timothy Daluk for a meeting
demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability. As the military
seeks to address the serious allegations made against it, the process aims to
provide a platform for Daluk to substantiate his claims.
The outcome of this engagement will be crucial in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the accusations and maintaining public trust in the military's operations in Plateau State.
