Fire Razes 3 Passenger Boats In Rivers Jetty
Three passenger boats were yesterday
destroyed following a fire incident that occurred at the popular
Bonny/Nembe/Billed jetty in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Also, a Toyota vehicle, parked close
to one of the passenger boats was totally razed while a building housing the
Marine Police and the Nigerian Navy was touched by the fire.
The Bonny/Nembe/Billed jetty, which
serves the people of Bonny and Bille in Rivers State as well as Nembe in
Bayelsa State was reconstructed and commissioned by the administration of
former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in 2022.
Sources said that the fire
started around 4:00pm from one of the passenger boats due to electrical issues.
The sources said the fire however
escalated to the two other nearby boats that had illegally refined petroleum
products on board.
The Rivers State Police Command is yet
to issue an official statement on the sad development.
