Adamawa Health Worker Commits Suicide Over Boyfriend's Death

A member of staff of Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHCDA), Miss Florence Vandi, has committed suicide over her boyfriend's death in Girei local government area.

Florence, a resident of Viniklang, according to sources, took the action because she wanted to celebrate Christmas with the deceased Nuhu Boniface in heaven. Boniface died in her hands while receiving treatment.

The police, in a statement issued by the spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the 22-year-old lady killed herself on December 12, 2023.

Nguroje said the command received a report that a 22-year-old lady identified as Florence Vandi, had committed suicide by drinking "Otapiyapiya", a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

He said, "The deceased took the unfortunate decision a few hours after the death of her boyfriend known as Nuhu Boniface who died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

"Investigation revealed that until her death, Florence was a health worker attached to Girei Primary Healthcare Centre.”

Nguroje said the commissioner of police, Afolabi Babatola, who expressed sadness over the incident, advised members of the public to avoid taking laws into their hands and report any suspicious movement around their neighbourhood to the police.
