NAF Kills Wanted Terrorist Kachalla, Fighters In Niger
Another wanted terrorists’ leader, Ali
Kawaje alias Ali Kachalla, has been reportedly killed in airstrikes undertaken
by the air component of operation Whirl Stroke in Niger State.
Military sources said the wanted
terrorist alongside his fighter were killed on December 10, 2023 after
attacking a military location at Mangoro community in Munya local government
area of Niger State.
According to insider sources, the
location attacked is that of Asari Dokubo boys on contract to provide security
on some sections of Abuja-Kaduna Road.
The source said the attack left eight
dead while 28 others were wounded, adding that they have been evacuated to
military facility in Kaduna for treatment.
The source also revealed that the same
terrorists tried to attack the Abuja-Kaduna train but were foiled by personnel
of the Nigerian Army.
However, the military in the
engagement lost three vehicles but saved the day.
He said following the attack, NAF
aircrafts under Operation Whirl Punch were swiftly deployed to support the
troops in distress.
He said, "Overhead the location,
Kachalla and his foot soldiers were sighted withdrawing from the operatives
location on 11 motorcycles, but unknown to them, they were being trailed to
their hideout near Kopa Hills where they took cover under a thick tree
covering. It was at this point that the air strikes were authorized, which were
decisive and swift, thereby ensuring effective and maximum damage to the
terrorists".
Intelligence further revealed that
"several of the terrorists including the terrorists’ kingpin Ali Kachalla,
were eliminated as a result of the strike."
When contacted, the NAF spokesperson,
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, refused to commit to any statement regarding the
strike, noting that he was yet to receive any brief about the air strike.
This strike comes barely 24 hours
after the NAF confirmed the killing of another deadly terrorists’ kingpin,
Yellow Jambros.
